Deputy Executive Director for Legal Affairs Kateryna Ryzhenko spoke about manipulations regarding the Corruption Perceptions Index in Ukraine in the podcast Feykotron by Hromadske Radio.

“Fakes, especially on the topic of corruption, have a negative impact on citizens’ perception of the effectiveness of the fight against corruption. Sometimes people think that millions of hryvnias are spent in Ukraine on the work of anti-corruption bodies, when there is supposedly no corruption. There is also a widespread myth about the Corruption Perceptions Index in Ukraine, which Transparency International publishes.

Every year, manipulators present this research in their own way. Allegedly, Ukraine is the worst, we have no progress, we are trailing behind. This is not true. Ukraine has recently even moved forward in this index. With all the data publicly available, politicians and some experts manipulate the information. They understand that those who listen to them will not check what is said in the original sources.

However, Ukraine’s performance has increased by 7 points since 2012, that is, we continue to move towards improvement. Even though Ukraine is not currently the leader among European countries, but the difference before the Revolution of Dignity and after is noticeable,” Kateryna noted.
