The Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) has extended its competition to its Public Council.

Everyone interested can apply by January 10.

If you are a professional in your sector, if you understand the importance of public oversight and are ready to exhibit your social responsibility, apply! To do it, your organization has to nominate you for the competition.

What are the powers of the Public Council representatives?

They analyze information about the activity, execution of plans and tasks of the ARMA, they execute oversight of public spending, delegate two representatives each to meetings of the interagency commission on asset disposal and the selection board for public officials in the ARMA. The Public Council can also receive documents and information pertaining to the activity of the ARMA (apart from those which constitute state secret).

The internet vote for the candidates will take place on January 20, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EET.

Recall that on November 27, a public discussion on the role of public councils in the public policy was held with the support of the European Commission.

Activists discussed whether public councils were capable of making public officials work more effectively, how cooperation could be established and whether the role of a watchdog was always productive.

“Representatives of civil society are usually convinced that being a watchdog is the most effective way to reach your goals. However, TI Ukraine’s experience shows that each situation is special. Sometimes, we were able to obtain the needed result working as a friend or a partner of the institution as opposed to a watchdog. Though, of course, sometimes nothing would happen without a strong public stance on our behalf,” says TI Ukraine’s Head of Legal Kateryna Ryzhenko

The event was held with the financial support of the EU. The content of the publication is the sole responsibility of Transparency International Ukraine and does not necessarily reflect the position of the EU.

Transparency International Ukraine works with the National Agency within the project Enhancing the Role of Civil Society in Public Finance Oversight, financed by the European Union. The project aims at empowering civil society and journalists with effective anti-corruption, asset recovery and anti-money laundering tools to perform the public finance oversight, support the launch of Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) and to update the list of Politically Exposed Persons.
