Finally! It happened! On October 5, at 5 pm, the first meeting of the selection commission for the election of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) head was held.

The meeting itself did not last long — about 20 minutes. During this time, seven members of the selection commission managed to decide on the chair of the commission, as well as agree on the date and agenda of the next meeting.

Ivan Lishchyna, a lawyer, was unanimously elected chair of the selection commission. Olena Yara, dean of the Faculty of Law of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, was elected deputy chair. Lawyer Serhii Vernydubov was elected secretary of the selection commission.

They decided not to delay the next meeting, and already on October 11, 2021, the commission will meet again. It is then that the commission plans to approve the regulation, the competition procedure, and agree on the formation of a working group.

Let us remind you that the selection commission is formed of representatives of various branches of government and state institutions. One person is delegated by the ministers of justice and finance, the Prosecutor General, the director of NABU, and the head of Financial Monitoring; the Verkhovna Rada delegates three more.

We would very much like that the enthusiasm, speed, and constructive dialogue accompany the commission throughout the entire selection period for the ARMA head. After all, this position is crucial for bringing high-profile corruption cases to their logical conclusion.

TI Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized that ARMA really needs a new head, since the institution has been operating without one for almost two years. At the same time, it is equally important that the competition is held as transparently as possible, and in the end the institution is headed by an independent and professional manager.
