The Ukrainian chapter of the international anti-corruption network Transparency International invites regional journalists, activists and representatives of local authorities to a series of trainings on increasing transparency of cities.
On September 1-2, 2017, the training will be held for citizens of the following cities: Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Rivne, Ternopil, Kamenets-Podilskyi, Novograd-Volynskyi, Shepetovka, Varash, Dunaevtsi, Neteshyn, Slavuta, Starokonstantinov, Zhmerinka. The event will be held in Khmelnytskyi, at the hotel “Yanysol” at the following address: street Svobody, 40a.
At the training, experts will share their experiences and best practices on how to increase the transparency of cities. Particular attention will be paid to those areas of the authorities responsibility, in which cities scored the minimum number of points. One of the lecturers will be Gabriel Shiposh, director of Transparency International Slovensko. He will discuss the topic of Slovak experience in increasing the transparency of cities.
In June, TI Ukraine and the Institute of Political Education presented the transparency rating of 100 cities, which can be reviewed on the website transparentcity.in.ua. 13 areas of responsibility of the city government were measured, including information on the work of local authorities, access and participation, procurement, housing policy, budgeting and contracts, grants, finance allocation, social services, personnel issues, professional ethics and conflict of interest, Information on land use and construction policy, utilities, communal property, and education. Only six cities out of 100 crossed the the line of 50 points. Hence, the situation with transparency in Ukraine leaves much to be desired. The training will be attended by 30 people
