The Ukrainian chapter of the global anti-corruption movement Transparency International invites representatives of Irpin city authorities to register for the training How to Improve Irpin’s Position in the City Transparency Ranking. It will be held as part of the project Make the City Transparent, Take Part in Governance. The event will be conducted by TI Ukraine experts on November 20 from 9AM to 7PM at the Conference Hall Irpin, address str. Severynivska, 118A

You can register for the training at http://bit.ly/2AERBth. The deadline ends on November 16 at 12PM. The number of participants is limited. Representatives of local authorities who will be able to participate in the training will be notified beforehand.

Irpin ranks 75th in the Transparency Ranking of 100 Ukrainian cities. The city got only 22 points out of 100. That is why TI Ukraine decided to work on the reduction of corruption risks and increase the accountability of authorities in this very city. The project also includes sharing best practices of transparency with representatives of the local authorities of Mariupol, Sievierodonetsk and Melitopol. Similar trainings were held in the aforementioned cities, as well as awareness campaigns that helped citizens learn how to demand accountability from the authorities.

The educational event for representatives of Irpin authorities will be conducted by Institute of Political Education expert Oleksandr Solontay. A special guest at the event will be ProZorro.Sale Regional Manager Oleksiy Movchan. He will give a lecture “Why Is It Beneficial to Use Prozorro.Sale for Selling Communal Property”.

The participants will learn how to improve transparency in the areas of informing the public on the work of the local authorities, access and participation, municipal property, grants and finances, as well as best practices of land use.

The training aims at raising awareness among the Irpin officials of principles of accountability as well as developing the culture of transparency in the municipality. TI Ukraine representatives want to start a dialogue with the local authorities for implementation of the recommendations how to improve transparency.

Now, decentralization is underway in Ukraine, which presupposes transfer of authority and budget earnings to the local level. While city budgets have become more independent thanks to this process, corruption risks are one of the key threats for effective local self-government. That is why TI Ukraine continues to work on transparency in the regions of Ukraine and actively motivate local public officials to adhere to principles of transparency and accountability.

The project Make the City Transparent, Take Part in Governance is implemented by TI Ukraine together with the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law as part of the project Strengthening the RPR Coalition implemented with the support of the EU.
