On May 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. Transparency International Ukraine invites the journalists as well as concerned citizens to join the public performance at the Ukraine’s Supreme Council where the activists will set the stage for ‘execution of #6220’ for NABU symbolizing the repeating attempts of national deputies to kill independent investigation of the newly formed NABU.

Public activists dressed up as executioners and with masks of the parliamentary leaders imitate the real gallows in front of the building of Ukraine’s Parliament where they are going symbolically ‘execute’ the NABU. In such a way the activists aim to demonstrate the consequences of adoption of the bill #6220 aiming at NABU’s destroying.

The briefing with the participation of representatives of the Centre for Corruption Combating, AutoMaidan, Reanimation Reform Package Transparency International Ukraine and the Council of Public Control with NABU and MPs will follow the ‘public execution’.

The bill prepared by the coalition stipulates that the NABU’s detectives will not be able to investigate the corruption crimes of officials if the cases against them have been closed by the police. In this case, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine or the National Police wimp out the cases threatening the corrupt grand officials and their counterparts, so the detectives would have to close their cases.

In fact, the proposed amendments to the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine supported by all the leaders of the parliamentary fractions unable the independent investigations run by the NABU making it dependent on the decisions passed by the Attorney General and the judges or military controlled by the President.

Yesterday, in the course of press conference Petro Poroshenko stressed that he would veto this law in case the majority of the parliament supports it. The NABU also urged the deputies not to vote for this law.

On Wednesday, May 17 the committee on law enforcement activity will consider the amendments preceding the second reading of the law and the voting for the law that has successfully passed the first reading stage is arranged on Thursday.
