On Wednesday, February 12, 2020, Transparency International Ukraine presents a transparency study of the 100 largest cities of Ukraine-2019. The event will be sponsored by the European Union (EU) and the UNDP project Civil Society for the Enhanced Democracy and Human Rights in Ukraine.
TI Ukraine for the third consecutive year measures the transparency of the authorities of the 100 largest Ukrainian cities. Since 2017, the level of city openness has increased by 53%. With the increasing transparency of the cities, there are obvious benefits. Authorities get trust and commitment of citizens, the people of cities get access to information and decision-making, and businesses enjoy transparent rules and competitive conditions.
“We expect to see real changes in the Ranking, as competition between cities becomes more intense every year,” said TI Ukraine Executive Director Andrii Borovyk. “Yesterday’s outsiders, based on our recommendations and experience of city leaders, can very quickly improve the level of transparency and, accordingly, their positions in the ranking. And it shows the real development of local communities in our country and the willingness of the authorities to change.”
During the event, representatives of the authorities, experts and the public will speak. In particular, the Executive Director of TI Ukraine Andrii Borovyk, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Dr. Annika Weidemann, Advisor to the Minister of Digital Transformation Jaanika Merilo, First Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development Dmytro Zhivytskyi, experts Oleksandr Solontay and Taras Sluchyk, mayors of city councils at the top of the ranking and others.
The presentation will take place on February 12 at 10:00 at the address Kyiv, 7 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho (Kyiv History Museum).

Transparency International Ukraine is an accredited chapter of the global movement Transparency International with a comprehensive approach to development and implementation of changes for reduction of the corruption levels.
TI Ukraine launched the Transparent cities program in 2017. Its purpose is to combat corruption at the local level and to introduce best practices of transparency and accountability.
Transparency International Ukraine team developed and implemented the Transparency Rating of the 100 Largest Cities. Experts annually analyze the openness of city councils by indicators in 14 areas. In three years, the average transparency of cities has increased by 53%.
