The High Anti-Corruption Court indicted former prosecutor with the Prosecutor General’s Office Oleksandr Matiushko in the first instance.

He offered USD 5,000 to 10,000 for a position in the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. Matiushko tried to bribe head of Public Oversight Council under the NABU Oleksii Hrytsenko, who was a member of the selection commission recruiting detectives, heads and deputy heads of the Bureau’s departments and divisions.

On February 17, 2016, NABU detectives detained Matiushko together with Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office prosecutors. In April 2016, the case was sent to Holosiivskyi District Court, where it stayed unresolved for three years. In autumn of 2019, the proceeding was sent to the High Anti-Corruption Court, where they started considering it from scratch.

The court convicted the former prosecutor to two years in prison without property confiscation (Article 369, part 1 of the Criminal Code). At the same time, the prosecution charged Matiushko on the count of Article 369, part 4 of the Criminal Code, which envisions a stricter punishment of 5 to 10 years in prison.
