The Board of TI Ukraine has terminated the membership of some of the organization’s members for failure to pay the membership fee partially or in full.

On May 15, 2019, at the Board meeting of Transparency International Ukraine CSO, the Regulation on the Amount and Payment Procedure of Membership Fees was adopted, based on the organization’s Charter.

Among other things, the document says that the members have to pay a membership fee by August 1 every year. The Board established the fee for 2019 as UAH 1,000.

As of March 2020, the organization has not received the full amount of the membership fee from some members. Under the Charter, failure to comply with the decisions of the Board and violation of rules, standards or obligations of the organization approved by the Board constitute grounds for the termination of the membership.

It should be noted that it is the members of the organization who select members of the Board, who, in their turn, make decision on the organization’s activity at their meetings.

As an open organization, TI Ukraine maintains the principle of equality among all its members. All members have the equal obligation to follow the requirements of the Charter and to comply with the decisions of the organization’s governing bodies.

Furthermore, the accreditation committee of the global Transparency International, as a rule, supports the practice of membership fees as a “positive way of ensuring sustainability, legitimacy and independence.”
