Legal advisor of Transparency International Ukraine Maksym Kostetskyi explained the difference between the competition to the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Supreme Court held by the High Qualification Commission of Judges in his appearance on the Ukrainian Radio.

“There is a key difference between the Supreme Court competition and the High Anti-Corruption Court Competition. Negative conclusions on the candidate’s integrity or professional ethics, made by the Public Integrity Council are, unfortunately, not obligatory for the High Qualification Commission of Judges to take into account, two thirds of HQCJ member votes are enough for the candidate to proceed. Meanwhile, in the competition to the High Anti-Corruption Court, where the interviews ended just a few weeks ago, if there were questions to the candidate’s integrity and at least three international experts did not support that candidate, the candidate dropped out of the selection. It clearly attested to the effectiveness of this tool,” said Kostetskyi.
