On 29 August 2018, Drohobych City Hall hosted an award ceremony, where the city received a plaque in honor of Drohobych reaching the score of 80+ points in Transparency Ranking of Ukrainian Cities.
Currently, Drohobych is on the 2nd place in Transparency Ranking of Ukrainian Cities, with 80.3 points out of 100.
Kateryna Tsybenko, program manager of Transparent Cities, said: “It is a big achievement for the city, yet also a big challenge. It is important not to stop the progress and continue to improve the situation with transparency in the city, since transparency is a rather formal criterion, and it is no less important to have accountability – that is, ability to communicate with the public, report on the results and adhere to transparency principles in practice.”
During project implementation, the city managed to improve its own transparency score by 34 points, rising from the 10th place to the 2nd in the Transparency Ranking and getting the maximum score in three accountability areas of local authorities:
Procurement: from 3.5 points to 7 (maximum 7)
Grants and allocation of funding: from 3.5 points to 8 (maximum 8)
Social services: from 1 point to 4 (maximum 4)
Drohobych Mayor Taras Kuchma says: “We make every effort to make Drohobych an open and transparent city. Successful outcomes of our activity are evident. Heads of other cities often ask me if we are not afraid to make the information on the city’s life so open. Here I answer everyone with conviction – no, we are not, because we have nothing to hide, and the main goal of our activity is to engage the citizens to city management through transparency tools.”
The event took place as part of the Transparent Cities Club project that aims at inspiring cities at the top of Transparency Ranking of Ukrainian Cities to achieve high results (80+ points) of transparency through implementation of “complex” recommendations and disseminating their best practices among other Ukrainian cities.
