Transparency International Ukraine urges the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Fiscal Service, the Military Prosecutor’s Office under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine to investigate the actions of their staff highlighted in the story by Bihus.Info immediately. The investigation must be carried out as prescribed by the law with involvement of internal security departments. We believe it reasonable to engage the public in the process to ensure its transparency.

TI Ukraine also insists that it is crucial for NABU senior management to take action to restore the Bureau’s credibility. The NABU is a part of the anti-corruption infrastructure heavily relied upon by the people of Ukraine and Ukraine’s international partners. The Bureau must demonstrate its ability to make sure that its staff members comply with the law, and, if necessary, clear its ranks of those involved in the questionable dealings. TI Ukraine believes that the NABU must engage the Internal Oversight Directorate as soon as possible to investigate information concerning certain detectives and officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau and suspend the staff members until the decision is made by the Disciplinary Commission.

Transparency International Ukraine is expecting the special meeting of the Public Control Council under the NABU, which includes members that represent TIU. This civil society institute disposes of legal mechanisms of control over the NABU and oversees the Bureau’s transparency.
