The Ukrainian chapter of the global anti-corruption organization Transparency International invites activists, journalists and everyone interested in transparency to participate in the training in Sievierodonetsk “How Can a Regular Person Influence the Authorities?” At the event, representatives of the public will gain theoretical knowledge and practical tools which they can use to influence local authorities and increase transparency of their city.

The training will take place in Sievierodonetsk on January 30 from 9:30AM to 5:30PM in the Myr hotel at 1 Lysychanska st. Check in from 9AM to 9:30AM.

Prior participant registration is required: https://goo.gl/forms/6FsoxHn6KOdhNRHp1. Registration deadline: January 25, 12PM.

The training will be delivered by Oleksandr Solontay, Institute of Political Education expert.

Together with the participants, he will focus on budget monitoring and supervision of work of municipal enterprises.

As a reminder, Sievierodonetsk ranked 73rd in the transparency ranking of 100 Ukrainian cities. The city got only 22.46 points out of 100. The city did best in the area of information on work of the local authorities – 4.4 points and in the area of budgeting and contracts, which got 4.83 points. However, there are 4 areas where the city got zero points. The most obscure categories thus are housing and education, social services and human resources.

Now that decentralization is underway in Ukraine, the local authorities are gaining more power and local budgets are becoming more independent. That is why it is essential to develop mechanisms of monitoring and public control which would prevent corruption on the local level.

The project Make the City Transparent, Take Part in Governance is implemented by TI Ukraine together with the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law as part of the project Strengthening the RPR Coalition implemented with the support of the EU.
