On December 16, the Selection Board for Head of NACP announced the winner of the competitive recruitment: prosecutor Oleksandr Novikov.

Currently, he is a prosecutor with the Law Observance Oversight in Criminal Proceeding and Law Enforcement Coordination Department with the Prosecutor General’s Office. One of the major cases he’s working on now is the case on possible forgery of final school test results.

In 2015, he was one of three candidates to become one of Deputy Heads of the SAPO. Back then, the selection board recommended appointing him Kholodnytskyi’s deputy.

“This decision of Board members means that this candidate has the best professional experience, knowledge and qualities to be the Head of the NACP out of all the candidates, and that he complies with the criteria of competence and integrity,” says TI Ukraine’s legal advisor Oleksandr Kalitenko. Now, the Board should file a submission for appointment of the Head of the NACP with the Cabinet of Ministers, and then it’s up to the Cabinet.”

Recall that on October 18, the law on NACP reboot came into effect, including a change of management and a switch from collegiate management to individual management.

On October 28, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the composition of the Selection Board, which included three representatives of international organizations and three Ukrainian representatives.

On November 25, the Board approved a list of 30 candidates formally eligible for the position.

On December 13-14, interviews with the candidates were held, resulting in announcement of the winner on December 16.
