The accredited Ukrainian chapter of Transparency International has presented its analytical report “Dynamics of Transparency: How Ukrainian Cities Have Changed during Two Years.”

What is the report about?
  • Best practices of municipal transparency in Ukraine and worldwide;
  • How Ukrainian cities change; how transparency affects the city and benefits the citizens;
  • Debunking myths about openness;
  • Wins and fails of municipal transparency;
  • Projected changes in the Ranking in 2019.

“TI Ukraine has been working on fighting corruption in the regions for the third year now,” says Transparent Cities analyst Zoriana Semehen. Dynamics of Transparency: How Ukrainian Cities Have Changed during Two Years’ shows the results of our work, debunks myths about transparency and provides important recommendations for city councils. This report will also be useful for those who want to find out about best international practices.”

When and where will we present the report?

The report will be presented in 5 Ukrainian cities. Citizens and authorities will have an opportunity to talk to the authors and to get responses to their questions about local transparency. See our Announcements page for the schedule.

As a reminder, since 2017, Transparency International Ukraine has maintained a Transparency Ranking of 100 Biggest Cities, encouraging local councils to publish information and engage the public in decision-making. During 2017-2018, the transparency score has grown by 12% on average, and is currently 40 points. Competition is growing. In 2017, it was enough to get 59.7 points to get to the top of the Ranking, while now the leader has over 85 points.

During the past two years, the Transparency Ranking of Ukrainian Cities has already contributed to many changes in municipal transparency. But there is a lot of work to be done with local authorities that ignore participation in this project.
