This was reported by the National Bureau following the results of the first meeting of Semyon Kryvonos with the members of the external audit commission.
This will be the first independent external evaluation of the Bureau’s activities throughout its entire existence.
An external audit of the NABU’s operation is directly spelled out in the specialized law and is an important criterion for assessing the performance of the anti-corruption institution. The NABU Director Kryvonos emphasized his readiness to contribute to the openness, transparency, and efficiency of this assessment.
“For a long time, together with the entire public sector, we have been waiting impatiently for an external audit of the. This assessment is crucial for the further operation of the Bureau and the entire anti-corruption reform. The NABU is the first anti-corruption body established after the Revolution of Dignity. It is with its activities that many Ukrainians associate the real fight against corruption in Ukraine, and the audit will show how high the quality level of its activities is. We expect the audit results to be specific and the recommendations to be comprehensive. These proposals will become a real basis for further optimization of the NABU’s work,” explained Kateryna Ryzhenko, Deputy Executive Director for Legal Affairs at TI Ukraine.
The NABU external audit commission includes:
Robert Westbrooks, former US criminal investigator and former US Inspector General,
Martin Arpo, former Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Service of Estonia,
Hermione Cronje, international anti-corruption and asset recovery specialist.
The commission shall approve and publish the criteria and methodology for assessing the performance of the National Bureau. TI Ukraine will monitor the progress of the audit.
